What’s your story?
Some people like to collect postcards or watches, shot glasses or antique clocks. We all have a thing that fascinates us, and for me that thing is language. I am a collector of words and lover of stories, of the voices we don’t hear and the ideas we can’t yet fully understand.
Over the years, I have acquired a number of words in English and many languages not my own. Sitting amidst my collection is a word I believe aptly describes the human condition, something I experience every day: that word is SONDER.
The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows defines SONDER as, “n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.”
People – it always comes back to the people. Every person has a story that deserves to be heard. No matter how insignificant you may sometimes feel, every life matters. You matter.
If every person has a story, what’s yours?
I am a poet who creates worlds with my words and my hands, sometimes while standing on my hands. I am constantly exploring new mediums to connect with the people I seek to reach. It could also be said that I am a hand balancer who writes, as it is hard to say which came first: my love of words, or my love of being upside down. Currently, I am pursuing film, photography and illustration in combination with poetry and spoken word. I am interested in collaborating with interesting people who have interesting ideas and stories. If that is you, feel free to reach out and send me a message!
In the hours I am not busy writing, creating or balancing on her hands, I love to bake and people watch and spend time with my lovely family and friends, ideally in nature. I hope to travel a lot in the near future – the world is an amazing place and I want to know more.
One more thing:
I believe in hope. It is my mission in life, I think. Spread hope. And remind people they are not alone. You are not alone. That is all.
